RIVER MONSTERS SEASON 8 - ANIMAL PLANET

There are only three water effects tanks on seas or oceans in the world.  Malta, Baja and the Dominican Republic.  Jeremy Wade, tired of shivering after an extended stint diving in Alaska, laid down rule number one – the water had to be warm – cross off Malta.  The next option – Baja…that’s only a hundred miles from LA – perfect!  Oops…Fear the Walking Dead had the entire facility booked solid for the next six months.  This left us with only the newest and most sophisticated effects tank in the world…which just happens to be in the middle of tropical paradise – Pinewood Studios, Dominican Republic.  Ah, the suffering.  Put a rowboat out in the middle of a calm sea…cue the wave machines…the rain…the wind…dump in the crashing spray and you have the makings of a hell of an ocean adventure.  Oh yeah, and that Kraken - unfortunately the live ones were all over at the Bermuda Triangle, so we had to build her in post.
